The makeup look that I was dreaming of for my wedding, was to recreate something fresh, natural and a beautiful blushing bridal look that is very similar to the wedding look that Charlotte Tilbury did on Amal Clooney for her wedding.
Before I jump right into my wedding makeup tutorial,
What can be more exciting than marrying the love of your life after a long wait of six years. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. (Proverbs 13:12)
I was super excited for our big day, the day that Jesus miraculously brought us together as man and wife to begin a promised journey that fulfils his great purpose in our lives. They say, every wedding has some drama.. well, ours was quite a supernatural adventure with our Heavenly Father by our side. I can’t thank Jesus enough for blessing me with a man who has God first in his life and loves me unconditionally with the truest form of the Corinthian’s 13 kinda love. Now that’s what I call a treasure from heaven! ❤️
In this post, I am going to share with you lovely brides-to-be about how I did my wedding makeup..
“Was I crazy to think that I could just do it myself on the one day I know everyone is going to be watching, staring, photographing and commenting on my look?” Being a bride is enough to drive me over the edge with anxiety, The pressure to look your very best, adding to the pressure to choose to trust someone else with the biggest day of my life or to just do it myself was such an initial dilemma. Something that I’ve always observed is that I am definitely happier and tend to be more satisfied when I do my own makeup than to trust a makeup artist who ends up charging a bomb for a look that I may not even be sure of… Moreover, what’s the point of all my passion for makeup and skills if I didn’t put it to use on my big day.. Sometimes you know what works best for you 🙂
As a bride, you’re always looking for a glow from within which is a reflection of a supple and healthy skin…
Fall in love with taking care of your skin, coz glowing skin is always in!
To look radiant from within on your big day, I would suggest for brides to have a regular skin care routine atleast two to three months prior to the day of the wedding. Preparing your skin and nourishing it with the right nutrients and hydration goes a long way to look healthier and glowing from within. As part of my night time skin care routine, I hydrate my skin with the Clinique moisturiser , a under eye cream from Khiels and I am a huge fan of the Olifair radiant night cream. It has lightened my skin tone from a NC 42 to NC 40 in Mac and has significantly reduced all the hyperpigmentation and discolouration. This means I don’t have to use a colour corrector anymore. If you are a bride to be, it’s a good thing to exfoliate regularly with a gentle scrub and get a facial done once in 20 days. This helps to increase blood circulation and gives a youthful glow. Another secret to having a flawless skin for your makeup to go over is to shave your face! Yes, as crazy as it sounds.. I do shave my face. Unwanted facial hair makes your skin look uneven , patchy and dull. I use the Panasonic facial trimmer to remove unwanted facial hair and it also kinda removes the dead cells on the upper layer of the skin. All this said and done, what’s most important to every bride is to drink lots of water, fruit juices and get enough of sleep.
The first thing a bride should have in mind is that she needs a healthy looking long lasting natural makeup that isn’t too caked up and is well moisturised.
Prep your skin
Pampering and Moisturising your skin is key for how the other layers of makeup sits over it. To start off with, I used the Clinique moisture surge moisturiser which is gel based and extremely hydrating. As a primer over the generous layer of moisturiser, I used the too faced hang over primer. The too faced hangover primer is light weight and water based, it blends like a dream. I love the consistency of the hangover primer. If you have large visible pores, I would suggest you to dab some benefit porefessional primer over the areas where you have visible pores.
Now that you have moisturised and primed your skin, the next step is to choose the perfect foundation. Before I go ahead with my foundation, I applied a generous amount of the farsali facial serum. Let the drops flow from your cheeks and forehead like all of the youtubers, lol you know the drill.
Perfect your skin with some flawlessness!
For foundation, I went in for the Nars All day luminous weightless foundation in the shade Syracuse. I’m a big fan of the Nars foundations and this one in particular has a velvety formula with a seamless coverage. It blends like a dream and looks like your skin but better. You can use a flat stippling brush to blend it out seamlessly.
For the concealer, I grabbed some Tarte shape tape concealer in medium and combined it with my favourite Nars radiant creamy concealer in biscuit. I used the beauty blender to blend in the concealer under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, chin and forehead. Concealers instantly brightens up the T zone and under eye areas of the face.
Let your brows do the talking
Oh I almost forgot, I always start with the eyebrows! Doing your eyebrow right is like getting 75% of your look in place. I use the Benefit brow wand to perfect my eyebrows. I gently fill in for it to look fuller and natural. To know how my eyebrow routine, you can read my post on how I do my eyebrows everyday.
Your eyes says it all, so Mesmereyes!
Once the concealer and eyebrows are in place, I move on to my eyes. To start off, I prime my eyes with the Nars radiant creamy concealer. The Mac paint pots are generally recommended but I find it to be not so much on the natural side for me, so I stuck to the Nars one. I use the neutral eyeshadow from the Modern Renaissance palette to set the base of the eyelid. This shade is very close to my skin tone and acts as a beautiful base for the other colours to go over it. Well as I mentioned earlier, my overall look was inspired from the wedding makeup that Charlotte Tilbury did on Amal Clooney . I was looking for a very similar champagne golden eyeshadow that kind of blends with my skin tone and complements the Off white wedding dress. To achieve that glowy dewy eyelids, I used the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to mesmerise cream eyeshadow in the shade Mario Antonito. It’s a single all over lid colour that blends like a layer of silk over the skin. It doesn’t budge and the beauty of the consistency of these cream eyeshadows from Charlotte Tilbury is that it appears metallic dewy and fresh without drying even after it is fully blended out. I used the Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadow in the shade Jean to highlight the inner corners of the eyes. I lined my eyes with an elegant feline flick using the NYX liquid liner and mattified the line using the Inglot gel eyeliner in #77. To smoke out the lower lash, I used the darkest brown eyeshadow from the modern renaissance palette and lined it with a brown eye pencil from Sephora. For lashes I used the Tarte lashes and a generous coat of the legendary Better than sex mascara from too faced. You get extreme volume and a more dramatic look with each coat of this fabulous mascara. The L’Oréal lash paradise mascara is a great dupe for better than sex.
Secretly blushing cheeks reflect the glow of your heart!
Now for my favourite part of the look- to contour, and blush on, I used the stunning Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Glow palette. Well, this was a pre wedding gift from my bestie Mado and it was like a dream when I unwrapped this treasure. In my upcoming post, I will write a detailed review of all of the Charlotte Tilbury products that I have been recently fascinated by. Moving on to contouring, I used the contour shade from the beauty glow palette for a very mild and subtle contour to just add a bit of definition to my face. For blush, I dipped into the beautiful rosey pink blush shade in the beauty glow palette which has a pop and swish shade. You pop the pop shade of the blush on the apples of your cheeks and use the swish shade to gently sweep it across your entire cheek bone to give a natural flush of blush to your cheeks. I mixed this with the hint of my favourite orgasm blush from Nars.
Brides, Shine bright like a diamond!
For highlight, I went in straight for the Bobbi brown highlighter in Bronze glow. This one is my absolute favourite for some intense highlight. What I love about this highlighter is that it is so fine in texture, does not settle within the pores and blends like a sheet of powdered golden magic powder on the skin. I simply love the way it blends with the skin, giving a very Greek goddess kind of highlight. I applied this with a real techniques highlighter blush over the temples of my check bones, on the tip of my nose, brow bones and chin. It practically captured the lights that will be focused on you and looks stunning on camera. This is one highlighter that doesn’t flash back on camera or appear too extra on the photographs. That’s something you definitely need for your wedding makeup!
Rose bud lips for a blushing bride!
Choosing which lipstick I was going to wear on my big day was quite mind boggling. I had ever so many favourite ones that it was so hard to just pick one. I was dreaming of a very natural rose bud pink lips for my wedding.
If you are one who’s also looking for a very Rose bud pink lip shade and if you are close to my skin tone, Some of the lipsticks that I would definitely recommend for your wedding are
- Lancôme lipsticks in the shade 280 and 290 ( I’ve mentioned this too many times in many of my previous posts, so by now you guys know this one is my goto lip shade)
- Bobbi brown luxe lipstick in the shade soft berry and pink buff
- Mac lipstick in Captive
- Jeffreestar liquid lipstick in Rosematter
- Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Queen or Secret Salma
- Ofra liquid lipstick in Santa Anna
- NYX lipstick in the shade doll
So what I did was, I filled in my entire lip with the lipliner from Makeup forever in the shade C14. It is such a beautiful dusty rose pink lip liner. I like to overdraw my lips a bit to make it appear more fuller. For the lipstick, I must admit that I went in for a concoction of Soft berry and Hibiscus from Bobbi brown and topped it off with a generous layer of Le Bois de Rose from Lancôme. I’ve mentioned this lipstick way too many tines in my previous blogs and by now you know how much I love this lipstick on me.
I picked my gorgeous round Victorian styled round crown from Aliexpress. They have some beautiful crowns for you to choose from.
To make sure your lipstick doesn’t dry out after three to four hours, I carried the glossy liquid lipstick from Shesheido in the shade RS 306 for the dinner party that followed the wedding.
To Set my makeup in place for it to look seamless, I sprayed some Mac fix plus and the Urban Decay All nighter setting spray for a long lasting stay put look.
No makeup is complete without a generous spray of your favourite perfume. I went in for an intense sensual fragrance from Lancôme called Tresor la nuit.
Now for the Story of How I said Yes to my Dress
To look like a princess on her wedding day, is almost every girl’s dream. Just that my dream had almost every detail in place, which made it quite a challenge to find the one who could make it a reality.. I dreamt of a white fairy tale wedding and was looking for a dreamy floral lace appliquéd milky white ball gown embellished with Swarovski crystals and pearls.
I was full on gawking at some of the dresses from the world’s best designers like Michael Cinco, Steven khalil, Jacy Kay and so on. I was imagining a customised dress combining the best of the creations of these designers. I wanted my dress to have a touch of elegance, intricacy, flamboyance and an elaborate royal aura to it. With all these dreams and imaginations, I approached ever so many designers in chennai who either quoted a sky high amount or plain refused to take up the order owing to the complexity of the dress. I had almost given up on my dream dress, until atlast I met Samantha from Elan design studio. My bestie and maid of honour- Rebecca, flew with me to Bangalore and spoke to her for like 10 mins, showed her some sample images and described the details that I was imagining on my dress.
To my surprise, she was the only one who smiled and instantly understood every single idea that I was painting in my mind. She quickly grabbed her pencil and sketched the details of my dress and my heart suddenly knew that she was the one who was going to make my dream a reality! I was very specific about the fabric type and colour. She truly cares for her customer’s thoughts and apprehensions and dealt with me with atmost patience. Samantha immediately got the exact off white or rather milky white toned organdi and a high quality thick floral lace that was very close to the ones of international standards. She explained how she was going to do the appliqué on a nude net fabric with intricate duo colour pearls and genuine Swarovski crystals. She has an impeccable sense of fashion, trend, techniques and style.
With her amiable persona and patience she assured me that my dream dress was in safe hands. At Elan design studio, the entire dress is made in-house under her supervision and constant care. I was called for two trial sessions to ensure the fit was perfect and for any quick alterations if it was required. I was told that my dress will be ready in two months . Her team worked meticulously on the intricate embroidery along the long trail and she had it all ready on the promised date. My parents, best friend and I were so excited to see how the dress would have come out. I was anxious and couldn’t wait to have a glimpse of my dream coming true. She gave me a full length long veil that went perfectly with the ball down. When I got myself into this absolutely stunning dress, I couldn’t stop those drops of tears of joy in finally being able to see myself in my dream wedding dress, which was exactly how I imagined it to be.
Elan studio definitely exceeded my expectations and I felt truly blessed to have chosen Samantha as my designer. She made me look like a Royal Lebanese bride and I owe all the compliments that I received on my big day to her! Thank you Samantha 🙂
What made it extra special is when Rebecca and Theo surprised me with a huge “She said Yes to the dress” placard when I walked out of her boutique with a huge grin. Rebecca, I can’t thank you enough for sticking by me from the time you tied up my corset till the time you got me out of it. Thank God for all my lovely bridesmaids who showered me with love.
Now for a glimpse of my beautiful wedding day… I am Sharing some of my favourite clicks with my bridal party from our white themed wedding.
It was indeed the happiest and most blessed day of my life. The truest meaning of marriage is to Center it around Jesus and keep in mind that it is a covenant relationship. A family that is built with Jesus as the head of it is the one that I dreamt of. A three fold cord is indeed stronger than two. I believe that Jesus had me in mind when He created my husband and with the deepest sense of conviction, I can say that he is the evidence of God’s unfailing love for me and plan for my life.
It was such a joyous wedding day as we pronounced our vows “As he took me to be his lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”
Purposed Together- Thank You Jesus
