ColourPop liquid lipsticks

The colourpop liquid lipsticks has been the latest obsession for many makeup lovers. Lately we see that almost every brand is coming up with their version of a liquid lipstick and Colourpop has stolen the market for their budget friendly liquid lipsticks. If you are fan of matte lips that are super long wearing ,You are going to totally love this!

The Colourpop lip offers a very impressive colour range having  over 40 different shades to choose from, varying from nudes to pinks to purples to oranges to reds and browns to other vibrant and quirky colours. They retail for $6 for 0.11oz. Now that is very reasonably priced, compared to other best selling high end liquid lipsticks from Stila, Anastasia Beverly hills, Kat Von D and Jeffry star. Colourpop’s founder -Seed beauty, also make the famous Kylie Jenner’s lip kit with similarities in formula and packaging.

Colorpop has two lines of liquid lipsticks:

  • Colorpop ultra matte liquid lipsticks– Perfectly matte in texture.
  • Colorpop Ultra satin liquid lipsticks– As the name suggests, has a beautiful satin finish.

The formulation is very thin, liquid like and not creamy in texture. It is very easy to apply and is very light weight that you can hardly feel it on the lips. However, these liquid lipsticks are extremely drying. It is good to exfoliate with a sugar scrub and prime your lips  with a good lip balm or lip oil before application. It works best if we take very less of the product and apply a single layer on to the lips, rather than to build it up by layering it.They do not have any significant fragrance.

The packaging is sleek and easy to carry around while travelling. It also comes with a soft doe foot applicator.

Colourpop has a colour for every person’s liking. They keep expanding their collection almost every week. They offer the most unique and vast selection of shades of even greys, blues and greens..No matter what colour you are looking for, You are sure to find one that you would love! I have also noticed that the colour may appear lighter in the tube as opposed to how it turns out to be on the lips, after it settles into matte. The colours may also appear totally different on people with different skin tones. Bumble appears more pink on me,but a beautiful rusty brown on my friend. I have also noticed that few of their colours wear so smoothly and better off than others which may be streaky or patchy.

This is how the formulation looks, Once it dries to matte on my lips- Now you see why I don’t prefer such extremely drying liquid lipsticks!

Although these lipsticks last for a good 8 hours on me, I have observed that it wears off in the centre of my lips and would settle in the fine lines, making it look very dry and flakey…So, I would definitely need to touch up in between.

Now this is just how it works on me, I have heard from few of my friends that it is not as drying and a lot of ladies seem to love it!

To make it easier for you, I would also like to suggest a few options based on colours that you may be looking for:

  • Nudes:Midi, Trap, Beeper, Bumble, Frick n frack
  • Reds: Creeper, succulent, Mars
  • Pinks:High ball, Sunday, Scrooge,Lyin King,Bad habit,The rabbit
  • Purples: Panda, Zipper, Drive-in, Lychee, Koala
  • Browns:Lax, limbo, Avenue, Tulle,Lost, Too lips
  • Grey: Kapow, Mess around
  • Orange: Pacific, Safari,Ouiji
  • Vivids: Dr.M, Jellies, Bedazzed, Mr.Blonde

However, Some of my favourite shades that are more wearable on an everyday basis and look lovely on medium skin tones are:

Swatches on NC 42 skin

Bumble- Is a beautiful terracotta with pink undertones. As I mentioned it looks more pink on me, But more brown and rusty on a few others.

Beeper- A nude Taupey brown shade with grey undertones, works well with a lip liner.

Teeny Tiny- A perfect mix of purple and brown.

Tulle- This is one of the most hyped about colours. It is a beautiful warm plum based reddish brown that flatters Indian skin tones and happens to be a go-to shade for two of my best friends.

Chilly Chilli- Is a shade of muted plummy brown, Classy and perfect during the day.

Stingraye-Is a unique muted cool toned mauve with brown undertones. It compliments those with yellow undertones. A good choice if you are looking for a nude with a pop of colour. It is a perfect lipstick for an elegant and sophesticated look.

Scrooge- Is a pretty rosey pink that will be embraced by all the pink lipstick lovers and will universally flatter almost all skin tones.

More Better-Is the most gorgeous Magenta colour with berry or wine undertones. This happens to be my absolute favourite! ❤  This colour is perfect for fall, winter or even for a date night.

Lax- Is a true dark chocolate brown lipstick. Now that the whole 90’s brown lip trend is back in vogue, this is a colour that is sought after by many.

What I love about these lippies:

  • Long wearing
  • Non sticky formula
  • Highly pigmented
  • Extensive color range
  • Reasonably priced
  • Transfer/Kiss proof

Why some of the other liquid lipsticks I know of are better:

  • Very drying on the lips
  • Creases into the fine lines / patchy after a few hours
  • Inconsistency in texture and application across shades
  • Availability

Although the Colourpop liquid lipsticks are yet to launch in India, There are many online beauty dealers who ship them and make it available for us at a much higher price. Beauty tales is the one of the dealers that I know of who distribute original Colourpop products at a comparatively reasonable price tag.

Here is the good news for you guys!!!! Colourpop themselves are introducing International shipping (excluding China and Turkey) from the 12th of  July’16, So that is something we can look forward to…

All in all, Colourpop has something for everyone.. The ultra matte liquid lipsticks for those of you who love dry matte lips and the satin range of liquid lipsticks for those of you like me, who prefer a more velvety matte lip. These lipsticks are definitely a must have for your makeup collection!

Hope this post was useful to you lovelies out there! Do share your thoughts and your favourite colours from the Colourpop range in the comments. Cheers 🙂

  1. I recently picked up my first haul of ColourPop lipsticks. I got Beeper, and I love the color and finish, but I kind of agree with you…It was way too drying on my lips. I also got their matte lippie stix if you’re looking for a matte finish that is less drying. I really liked Lumiere and Brink as nudes on my medium skin.

  2. I haven’t tried colorpop yet. But as per the swatches, Scrooge seems to have grabbed my attention. 💋💄
Hopefully, after 12th, I’ll put my hands on these, highly raved, lippies. 😍
